We are thrilled to introduce Dr. Cindy Ho, the newest member of our optometry team. Dr. Ho brings a wealth of experience, knowledge, and dedication to our clinic, enhancing the comprehensive care we offer to our patients. With a background that spans over two decades in the field of optometry and neuroscience, Dr. Ho’s expertise is a valuable addition to our practice, allowing us to continue providing proactive eyecare to the Burnaby heights and neighboring communities.
A Distinguished Career in Optometry and Research
Dr. Cindy Ho completed her Doctor of Optometry degree with Dean’s Honours from the University of Waterloo in 2000. Her commitment to advancing eye care didn’t stop there—she furthered her education by earning a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of British Columbia in 2008. Her research work has significantly contributed to the understanding of visual perception deficits in individuals with amblyopia (commonly known as lazy eye), and her findings have been published in prestigious peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Pediatric Ophthalmology & Strabismus, Optometry & Vision Science, and Vision Research.
In recognition of her outstanding contributions to the field, Dr. Ho was named Optometrist of the Year by the BC Doctors of Optometry in 2022. This honor reflects not only her clinical excellence but also her commitment to ongoing research and education. On top of her research and clinical work, She is involved with the Optometry Examining Board of Canada which administers the national entry-to-practice board examinations in Canada and provides the clinical standards for optometrists practicing in Canada.
Specialized Clinical Expertise
Dr. Ho’s clinical interests are broad and highly specialized. She is deeply involved in co-managing care for patients undergoing concussion rehabilitation, working closely with other healthcare professionals to ensure optimal recovery and visual health. For patients dealing with eye coordination and alignment issues, including double vision or difficulty reading, Dr. Ho provides vision training and prism correction therapies. Her expertise extends to the care of pediatric patients, with a focus on visual development and the management of myopia (nearsightedness). Dr. Ho is also well-versed in optical and pharmaceutical treatments for myopia control, offering parents and children innovative solutions to manage and slow the progression of this common condition. Additionally, she has expertise in fitting scleral lenses for corneal conditions such as keratoconus, post-corneal surgery complications, and ocular surface diseases.
Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Ho is passionate about the role of nutrition in eye health. She stays up-to-date with the latest research and enjoys educating patients on how diet and lifestyle choices can prevent eye diseases and promote long-term vision health.
